THERE are two types of women - those who lust after designer handbags, and those who think spending the price of a holiday on something you carry your junk in is a criminal waste of money. It probably comes as no surprise to find that I am in the former category.
My love affair with bags started when I was approximately 13. While all my friends were saving up their pocket money to buy Wham! albums, I was tearing up pairs of old jeans to transform them into a rucksack.
I learned two lessons very young: sewing is not my forte, and having a hot bag gets you noticed. From then on, I was hooked.
Replica Monogram Denim Handbags By 15 I had a hat stand in my bedroom dedicated to my small, but ever increasing, bag collection. By 16 I needed another hat stand. My Saturday job in a florist earned me Pounds 10 each week, which I'd promptly spend in a shop up the road called Bag-a-tell, poring over which faux leather number I was going to buy next.
Fast forward a decade or so and I have developed a serious bag habit.
Bags are w need cheer celebrate a over break fail me. Fo others it's the spot qu The only and when I'm on gro I now cove price tags my first fo through th a couple o yellow Bet what I treat myself to when I ring up, they are how I new job, they are how I get k-ups; in short, bags never or some it's alcohol, for nicotine, for me nothing hits uite like a shiny new bag.
y difference between now I was a teenager is that own-up money, and the bags et come with grownup to match. I have yet to buy our- figure bag, but I broke he three-figure price barrier of months ago for an acid tsy Johnson, which I picked up in New York for $500 (about Pounds 350).
led flexible strips I was consumed with guilt for about a week but I can honestly say it hasn't troubled me since. If anything it's made me an even bigger addict - once you've bought one ridiculously expensive bag it's hard to go back to the high street; it's just not the same.
So now I only buy designer or vintage. The downside is that they tend to be quite delicate. They don't like the rain, they don't like to be put on a mucky floor, and they need their own seat on the Tube.
I'm currently obsessing over a quilted patent leather Chanel bag; it's under four figures, but not by much.
embroidered patches I can't tell you how many bags I own, simply because I have no idea. I've got a couple of boxes of them stashed in a friend's loft, and then there is my "bag-suitcase" under the bed, and the holdall next to it that's got my "emergency" bags in (that's emergency as in "bags to be used when none of the others look right", rather than bags to take in case of fire or whatever).
And then there's the tatty canvas bag that's full of bags I'm thinking of taking to the charity shop.
At any one time I have about 10 to 15 bags on the go. It sounds a lot better if you break that down to, say, three potential bags for each day - ie one work bag, one casual bag and one evening bag. OK, so that's more like 20.
But who cares, they are "an investment", and a woman can never have too many of those.
